The objective of the Executive Information System (EIS) is to provide up-to-date targeted information regarding the performance of the University, with particular emphasis on the priorities and goals articulated in the University's Strategic Plan, Academic Profile and the Operational Priorities Plan, and to provide other information of particular relevance to faculties and schools. The information provided is integral to the systematic formal process described in the Cycle of Planning and Accountability, for annually ensuring that the University monitors and accounts for its performance against its plans.
The EIS comprises a set of web pages with links to PDF, Microsoft Word and Excel documents. Excel pivot tables are used extensively to allow skilled users to develop their own customised views of the data. The system has been developed primarily for use on Windows computers using Internet Explorer although it is expected that most of the functionality will be available on other browsers and operating systems.
This version is the fourth incarnation of the EIS.
The EIS was initially developed in 1993/94, based on a series of Excel spreadsheets linked by macros that were designed to run on Apple Mac computers. During 1997, the original EIS was redeveloped into a system of web pages with linked spreadsheets that were produced from data extracts using SAS and Cognos Powerplay. The third version of the EIS, hosted in MySource, was made available in late 2002, and extended the information to a wider group of users including heads of school and school managers. The fourth version reorganises the menus to achieve better alignment with the University's plans.
The system will be further developed and enhanced as required. Priority will be given to updating information required to support the Cycle of Planning and Accountability.
It should be noted that other useful information is available in Unistats, UWA in Brief and other publications. See http://www.stats.uwa.edu.au/.
Users are encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions for further enhancements. Should you have any comments, please contact one of the EIS staff members. |
